CTV London Sports is being recognized for it’s commitment to local sports coverage. The department has been given the Harry Paul Gauss Award by London City Soccer Club.

In the club explains it’s decision:

The final team honour handed out annually is;  The Harry Paul Gauss Award, which is given to an individual – or group of individuals – for exemplary support, commitment and allegiance to London City Soccer Club, and the advancement of professional soccer in the City of London, Ontario.

This season the club’s most prestigious honour was awarded to the CTV – Sports Department. The nightly local news sportscast headed by Norman James – including Brent Lale and Marek Sutherland – have been staunch London City supporters for numerous years.

Gauss noted that the CTV – Sports crew was selected because of their unwavering dedication to the promotion of professional soccer in London, Ontario – whatever the story may have been.

“Whether they were reporting our 2003 Canada Cup Championship, a standout player, or highlighting our rebuilding process, they always took the time to listen to the stories of London’s only professional soccer team, and present them in a fair and professional manner.” Gauss explained. “They continually attended our practices, games and events more than any other news agency in the city, and by showcasing the highest level of soccer the city had to offer, they helped make more Londoners aware of the game and its presence in London, Ontario.”

More City award winners:

The club has released its list of 39th anniversary honours, and the selection of this year’s winners was Ryan Gauss’ final duty for London City.

Ermal Murataj, who made his return to London City in 2011 from the Western Ontario Soccer League (WOSL), where he was a stalwart of the London soccer scene, led the way capturing the Domino’s Pizza of London Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Murataj played 24 of 26 games for City, making an impact in the midfield by offering consistent stability. His versatility to play other positions when needed made him an indispensable player that the management, coaching staff and fans came to continually notice and rely on every game.

Christopher Harrington, a gritty and hardworking defensive midfielder from Dublin, Ireland was handed the Most Dedicated Player award. Harrington who logged considerable playing time with both City’s first and reserve teams, quickly became known to everyone involved with the club as a player with an extraordinary work ethic. The first player at practice and the last player to leave, Harrington dedicated himself fully to the goals and objectives of London City Soccer Club.

While, Elvir Gigolaj – a standout CIS player with the St. Mary’s Huskies, who recently signed with FC Edmonton of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2012 season, was announced as the Nothers Signs and Recognition Rookie-of-the-Year. Gigolaj provided an offensive spark for City, and while netting only two goals with the top team, he was especially effective creating opportunities for the likes of Younan Samra, Tom Beattie and team captain Mike Marcoccia. Gigolaj’s ability to read the play effectively, move into open spaces and get the ball to where it is needed was remarkable from such a young player.
