GIONTA CAPTAIN

Brian Gionta will be wearing the C for the Montreal Canadiens this season. The American forward has been named the 28th captain in franchise history, taking over a role that has been vacant since Saku Koivu left the team in 2009. Koivu wore the C in Montreal for a decade. Gionta signed with the Habs in 2009 led the team with 28 goals last season. Andrei Markov and Hal Gill will continue to serve as alternates.
